Confusion and intrigue.

Its about dreams. People who can come and extract your thoughts from your dreams. Of dreams within dreams. Of people who can protect themselves from extractors using their sub-conscious. And of inception. The planting of an idea within a dream, which is so real that it stays with the person even when he awakes….

Whats summarised above is the intrigue part. Confusion stems from the myriad rules that surround this concept. Of killing yourself to wake up. Or having a totem. Or going into limbo. Or needing a kick. The unstability of dreams within dreams. The projections. The ability to feel pain without regaining consciousness. And most of all, the character of Mal. Leonardo’s wife. Who can interrupt every dream involving him. Cause he has a secret.

Its interesting, innovative. Some superb special effects, great visuals. None more interesting than when a cute Ellen Page begins to get the hang of the rules, decides to tamper with the laws of physics, or when the buildings / crates start exploding all around her. But eventually though, none of the characters was sufficiently built up for me to care about them. And that’s why, it remains interesting without touching the scales of brilliance.

I hesitate to talk any further for fear of giving it away. Of ruining the confusion that adds to the intrigue and you’re never quite sure of what you’re watching is a dream or is it reality ? And that merely adds to the confusion. And the intrigue. Enjoy.

The blog gives a view of the movie, it looks to be a science fiction, with more psychic kind of powers being involved. Is this one of those movies difficult to figure out as to what is happening?

  3. It's one of the most gripping & original films I've seen in a long time. Despite the long running time the tension & excitement doesn't wane for even a split second. The plot is very complex yes. But it unravels in a startling fashion which doesn't make it hard to follow if you've been giving it the attention it demands.

  4. 6?

    6?

    6?

    Really?

If it was a printed note, I would think that you gave it 9 but I read it as 6. I agree with Abbas, movie at least deserves an 8.

  5. I found myself comparing it to Matrix (which was another hi-concept sci-fi film). There i loved the characters of Neo, Morpheus, Trinity and also the plot was much simpler.

Here there were many plot points that i didnt understand. And I didnt really cheer for any character

    Hence the lower rating...

  6. A 6 ... ! A 6 come on Apurv! This film was brilliant - the writing so exceptional that in this day and age when viewers have extreme ADD it stays with you and forces you to think and rethink. I feel it reinvents the language of screenwriting. You gotta re-review it ;)

  7. hi ! another thing which makes me stand by my original rating is that i actually dont feel like watching it again. There is no desire to own the dvd as soon as it comes out. For most movies which are rated higher, that is not the case...

i wish i'd enjoyed it as much as all those who've commented here

  8. 6 is very unfair for Inception. But, you have given 6 to Raavan also. Then again 6 goes to What's your Raashi. Your review are gud but ratings are a bit confused for me. Coz, I can never keep Inception with the line of Raavan or What's your Raashi. If 6 is for Inception, then the other two will not get more than .5 from me. But anyways, I like your review, personal views obviously may differ. Keep blogging.

  9. I would give this movie a 9 for sure. Its one of the most intelligent movies and almost challenges the audience to keep up intellectually.
