Rating : 8/10
Release Date : 14th February, 2014
Time : 126 minutes
Director, Writer : Spike Jonze; Music : Arcade Fire
Starring : Joaquin Phoenix, (Voice of) Scarlett Johansson, Amy Adams, Olivia Wilde, Rooney Mara, Matt Letscher, Chris Pratt

He, a loner, still struggling to come to terms with the impending divorce from his childhood sweetheart (Rooney Mara). As a sign of changing times, he has a job as a letter writer for BeautifulHandWrittenLetters.com, where he writes letters for other people on various occasions (birthdays, graduation etc). He, on a whim, decides to buy a brand new operating system, which promises to be cutting edge, interactive, intuitive like never before. Which can view the world through his mobile phone camera. Talk to him like a person (voice of Scarlett Johansson) through an earphone, understand his needs, likes, dislikes. And then, he proceeds to fall in love with it !

The amazing part of how beautifully the movie is constructed is that at no stage do you feel this is a leap too far…everything is built up nicely, there is a logical progression. You see the friendship developing, the incredible things that the system is able to do, you can sense his loneliness, his lack of confidence after the failure of the biggest relationship of his life. And you feel for him, you want him to be happy – he is alone but not a creep, he has diffident manners but his letters display a sentimental heart. He has friends – Chris Pratt at his workplace, Amy Adams in his apartment block – but no one really close. He even tries to date (a gorgeous, available Olivia Wilde) but is too caught up in his past at that stage to be able to go further. And there is the operating system, which is evolving at every step of the way…figuring him and itself out, going far beyond what its programmers would’ve dreamt of.

Joaquin is so believable in his role, its uncanny. His look, demeanour, body language, eyes all conveying an overwhelming underconfidence, the life of a loner. Who changes, bit by little bit, as his relationship develops. And Scarlett’s voice is so husky, throaty, sensuous, she makes even a ‘Can I send your emails?’ sound unbelievably sexy. She gets her voice modulation bang on - especially as she begins to have doubts of her own, interacts with other people, takes over Joaquin’s life.

It was quite an experience sitting through this one. Its slow but insidious in several ways, getting inside your head and refusing to leave. And it definitely makes you relook at your computer, your operating system differently – you wish for certain technological advancements to arrive quite quickly here !

His eyes speak a thousand words.... You can become very introspective about your beliefs & become more empathetic to other people's problems. Bet, your big heart brings love & harmony in all your personal relationships. D energy you put into your work must allow you to experience material blessings in your home environment. Young blood ! The great charm you possess... How well one can identify with his character... his inability to express. D tragedy of d urban life.. Fills d void in his life & finds solace in d voice of his computer !! Futuristic..But here's d real litmus test : Given our addiction to technology, it won't be long before we do consider having a relationship with our gadgets ! (smart phones/ Virtual Images) .. Satirical take on love in a digital age..

His eyes speak a 1000 words & the moustache lends his hostile character that much required mystique. The tragedy of urban life... A man so alone that he fills the void in his life by having feelings for his operating system.!! Having heartfelt conversation with her husky voice brings solace to him... One can identify with the character & his inability to express. Unconventional love story between the Man and the Machine... Simply shows the need of conversation with real people.. What a bizzare relationship.. The trend has changed in the last one and a half decades, why are people getting addicted to technology ? At the rate development is taking place,... it won't take long for people to have a relationship with their gadgets. Will that be our future ??

In my next life I want to live backwards. You start out dead and get that out of the way. Then you wake up in an old people's home feeling better everyday. You get kicked out for being too healthy, go collect your pension and then when you start work, you get a gold watch and a party on your first day. You work for 40 years until you're young enough to enjoy your retirement. You party, drink alcohol and are generally promiscuous. Then you are ready for high school. You then go to primary school, you become a kid, you play, you have no responsibilities, you become a baby until you are born. And then you spend your last 9 months floating in luxurious spa like conditions with central heating and room service on top, larger quarters every day and then, you finish off as an orgasm ! I rest my case.. My Next Life by Woody Allen...

My cousin brother, who just became a father, too had done his 'higher studies' from The International Institute of Ponytail Management. Such exorbitant fees was charged. Free laptop provided. Self-paid internship at international dream destinations. 100% job placement was promised... When he was with the institute, he wouldn't stop jabbering sbout it.. Poor chap, couldn't even get a decent job in the city.. Wherever he worked, it was on the basis of 'shifarish'... Or maybe children born with a silver spoon in their mouth aren't used to hard work.. The ponytailed guy, his name is so pretentious, even by Bengali standards ! Yesterday the Bar Council derecognized DU Law course and now this one barred from offering MBA.. A big blow to the guy..
