Visiting Faculty, IIM-Ahmedabad

Apologies for posting this so late

I'm currently teaching a course in IIM-Ahmedabad. The course is on innovation, is designed / conceptualized by me over the last year (has a unique twist to it) and am happy to have the renowned Prof Arvind Sahay (Permanent Faculty, Dean External and Alumni Relations, IIM-A) join me for a couple of sessions as well.

My first time teaching, have given several talks before on campuses but never a full course. Am quite enjoying immersing myself in this experience, talking to students, other prof's, attending some lectures, some pre-placement talks, joining in the various events happening around etc. And in the few breaks, am traveling across Gujarat, a state I haven't explored almost at all...

IIM-A also happens to be my alma mater so this makes the whole experience truly special

I will be back in my home, Pune, mid-Feb and will begin my reviews only after that

Many thanks to Reckitt Benckiser (and their brand, Durex), a company I've enjoyed working for, in joining / helping me on this journey

Apologies to my regular readers, hope you understand ! Regards, Love

Billionaire Virgin Airlines boss Sir Richard Branson offered to sponsor the Indian Cricket team, currently reeling after a string of tournament defeats. However, the embattled BCCI had to politely refuse the generous multimillion pound offer by the cricket-mad magnate. As one harassed Board official snapped : We can't have VIRGIN written on our shirts, when we're getting screwed in every match !

With age, two kinds of women emerge. The bold and beautiful who would look radiant in a rich red or the understated who would don a nude shade. Perhaps, even a pastel. All as subtle as her smile..

There was much talk about the movie released on the eve of Valentines Day... Tell me, is this really the kind of relationship we want our daughters, relatives and friends willingly entering into ? Do we really want our sons to become Christian Greys ? Practicing a violent masculinity that degrades men as well ??

Love has to be shown, love shouldn't be locked inside.. Feeling so relaxed and romantic... Beauty everywhere...in the slope of the land, the breadth of the woods,.. shrub and flower, the scent of the unhurried wildlife...the quiet of the ocean depths...so much to discover in India...

Why Cupid ? How did a chunky, naked baby with wings, a bow and an arrow come to symbolize romance ? Named after the Latin word for "desire" (cupido), legend has it that the chubby cherub can cause a victim to fall in love merely by shooting a golden arrow into his or her heart..

Just back from a brainstorming In-service Professional Development Programme of Teachers by Prof. J.S. Rajput, former Director NCERT, a Padma Shree awardee.. He spoke about the role of a teacher in the 21 st century. To enlighten and empower the teachers, their total commitment... innovation, capacity building... What is missing in our education... blah, blah, blah. And while all this was going on, I was wondering why my kids could not recollect any Indian rhymes in Indian language, bas machli jal ki rani hai...yaad hai. Rest all are UK/Europe based, be it London Bridge is Falling Down, Ba-ba Black Sheep...., Ring-a-ring-a roses.. Even scaffolding kids does not help, they have difficulty imagining and creating a two to four lines verse... The entire pattern has to be changed.. But, does systematic killing of the language happen to be the objective in CBSE ?

Can't console grown up teenagers, one of them is totally demoralised. The child's dream was to get admission in SRCC, but inspite of achieving 96% there is no scope.. Is it worth all the hard work of the last four years. Coaching institutes / tuition centres do not teach how to accept defeat and the challenges the future holds for these young adults. So raw and inexperienced... Parents are busy minting money in MNCs, no value-time for their own offsprings, willing to shell out money for home tuition for all the subjects, even English and Economics are not spared ! Proudly claiming 'mere bachche ke har subject mein 95 and above marks aaye hai' ... Kya fayda iss parhaiyee ka. Sach mein afsos hota hai... Why not teach life skills, there is no dearth of talent in our nation..

Rumour has it each seat was being sold for anything between 3 to 10 lakhs.. The master mind is in direct touch with her..so says the newspaper..
